What age can children start to wear contact lenses?
Any age that they are medically required, there is no limit, but obviously parents are the ones who manage the lenses for young children.
If children require a very strong prescription in their glasses we often start using contacts around age 5 or 6.
When the lens is being used to help sport or function then around 8 or 9 often works well, most of these kids become good at looking after the lenses themselves. Other children who are using the contact as an alternative to glasses for general wear may be best to start at 11 or 12 years, as long as everyone makes sure care of contacts is done very carefully.
